Two Very Special Christmas & Hogmanay Drams Sample Set
This sample set contains two phenomenal and historic drams that are the ideal accompaniment to your Christmas & Hogmanay celebrations:
A 1974 Vintage 20 Year Old Caol Ila & a 1976 Vintage 25 Year Old Millburn…
Caol Ila 1974 Vintage 20 Year Old, Hart Brothers (30ml)
This is very special liquid…
A Caol Ila 1974 Vintage 20 Year Old that was bottled by the Hart Brothers in 1994.
This is some of the very first liquid that was produced at the then newly reopened Caol Ila distillery in 1974. In 1972, Caol Ila was closed and the distillery was essentially rebuilt and ‘modernised’ before being reopened in 1974.
As a result of Caol Ila’s temporary closure in 1972, Brora distillery was tasked with producing heavily peated malt for owners The Distillers Company (now Diageo) as a way of maintaining production primarily for The Distillers Company’s blending requirements.
The whisky was bottled at 43%.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Elegant. Dried Provence lavender. Flaked almonds. Salted fudge. Clementines. Earl grey. Wet lemon peels.
Palate: Classic Caol Ila mineral quality. Crystallised ginger. Refined menthol. Coal. Grapefruit rinds. White ash. Stone fruits. Peppery peat profile. Wet coastal stones.
Finish: Salty edge.Lime skins. Kelp. Cigar ash. Gentle citrus peels. Charcoal.
Note: This is one of those phenomenal drams you can spend an entire evening just nosing!

Millburn 1976 Vintage 25 Year Old, Douglas Laing (30ml)
This is a brilliant single cask Millburn 1976 Vintage 25 Year Old that was bottled by Douglas Laing for their iconic Old Malt Cask range.
The whisky was distilled in August 1976, spent 25 years maturing in a single cas before being bottled in May 2002 at 50%.
Millburn is one of our favourite lost distilleries and this expression is a fantastic example of Millburn’s sadly lost signature Highland style.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Strawberry Yoghurt. Milk bottles. Guava. Rosemary. Orange juice pulp. Delicate saline note. Toasted marshmallows. Alpine forest.
Palate: Papaya. Spiced apple pie. Hot croissants. Earthy profile. Coconut husks. Warm malt. Marmalade.
Finish: Nutmeg. Orchard fruits. Vanilla pods. Honey roasted almonds. Slightly saline finish.
