Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage 26 Year Old, Lightly Peated – 30ml

£20.00

This is a 1989 Vintage, 26 Year Old lightly peated Old Pulteney that was matured in refill ex-bourbon barrels that had previously held heavily peated whisky.

At the 2016 World Whisky Awards this whisky won WORLD’S BEST SINGLE MALT WHISKY!

This was bottled at 46% abv and was released in 2015.

Peated Pulteney is a special treat indeed and perfectly harmonises Pulteney’s signature coastal notes.

Our Tasting Notes:

Nose: Glowing BBQ embers. Cooked grapefruit rinds. Campfire smoke. Faint aroma of Wick harbour in the background. Black tea.

Palate: Bitter orange. Apple pie. Nutmeg. Lemon rinds. Crème caramel.

Finish: Woodspice. Dirty and dusty oak. Hot cocoa. Gentle smoke.

Pulteney Distillery – Active

A firm favourite of ours at The Malt Library, Pulteney distillery was founded in 1826 in the Highland coastal town of Wick. In fact, Pulteney distillery was once the most northern distillery on the Scottish mainland (a title that now belongs to Wolfburn distillery).

The distillery has a fascinating history and in a most unusual set of circumstances, the town of Wick (under the influence/spell of an American evangelist) opted to enforce a prohibition on alcohol from 1922 to 1947. This move forced the distillery to close until 1951 when thankfully Wick’s prohibition ended.
