Old Pulteney 8 Year Old 1990s Gordon & MacPhail – 30ml

£10.00

This Old Pulteney 8 Year Old was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail at some point during the 1990s (we estimate early 1990s).

Historically Gordon & MacPhail have had access to a lot of Pulteney stock over the years, stemming from a license G&M acquired when Pulteney was owned by Hiram Walker.

The whisky is 40% abv.

Our Tasting Notes:

Nose: Classic G&M old bottle nose. Sweaty leather. Pulteney’s signature maritime notes are faint, operating in the background. Dry casks. Loose tea.

Palate: Plums. Crystallised ginger. Peppers. Slightly herbaceous. Sweet malt. Very gentle peat.

Finish: Sultanas. Cinnamon. Grapefruit rinds. Further sweet malt notes to finish.

Pulteney Distillery – Active

A firm favourite of ours at The Malt Library, Pulteney distillery was founded in 1826 in the Highland coastal town of Wick. In fact, Pulteney distillery was once the most northern distillery on the Scottish mainland (a title that now belongs to Wolfburn distillery).

The distillery has a fascinating history and in a most unusual set of circumstances, the town of Wick (under the influence/spell of an American evangelist) opted to enforce a prohibition on alcohol from 1922 to 1947. This move forced the distillery to close until 1951 when thankfully Wick’s prohibition ended.
