Old Pulteney 2008 Vintage, The Ultimate – 30ml
This is a Pulteney 2008 Vintage bottled by renowned Dutch independent bottler The Ultimate.
Distilled on the 27th May 2008, this single cask offering spent 6 years maturing in a bourbon barrel before being bottled on the 6th May 2015 at 46% abv.
As with all The Ultimate releases, this whisky is natural colour and non chillfiltered.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Very distillate driven. Decking oil. Banana skins. Sparkling mineral water. Dried apricots. Subtle brine.
Palate: Fresh mineral presence. Touch of salt. Old toffee. Bourbon barrel sweetness.
Finish: Peppercorns. Kiss of juniper. Lingering vanilla. Wood spice.
Pulteney Distillery – Active
A firm favourite of ours at The Malt Library, Pulteney distillery was founded in 1826 in the Highland coastal town of Wick. In fact, Pulteney distillery was once the most northern distillery on the Scottish mainland (a title that now belongs to Wolfburn distillery).
The distillery has a fascinating history and in a most unusual set of circumstances, the town of Wick (under the influence/spell of an American evangelist) opted to enforce a prohibition on alcohol from 1922 to 1947. This move forced the distillery to close until 1951 when thankfully Wick’s prohibition ended.
Pulteney has a distinct salinity to its whisky.
