North of Scotland 1972 Vintage, 49 Year Old Single Grain Whisky - 30ml
This is a 1972 vintage 49 year old single grain scotch whisky from the long since lost North of Scotland distillery.
The whisky was bottled in 2021 by independent bottlers The Nectar at a natural cask strength of 40.5% abv.
This whisky was in cask for over twice the amount of time that North of Scotland distillery was actually active (the distillery closed in 1980).
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Golden syrup. Butterscotch. Ripe banana skins. Faint sage aroma. Mead.
Palate: Bitter chocolate. Porridge. Warm brioche. Subtle bubblegum. Overcooked custard.
Finish: Spiced apples. Nutmeg. Maple syrup. Bag of mixed nuts. Dried apricots.
North of Scotland Distillery – Closed
North of Scotland distillery, also known as Strathmore distillery was founded in 1958 on the site of an old brewery just outside of Cambus in Clackmannanshire. After a year of producing malt whisky under the name Strathmore, the distillery shifted focus to grain whisky production in 1959. Unfortunately, the distillery was closed just 21 years later in 1980 as a result of the downturn in the whisky market.
