Millburn 1972 Vintage, Connoisseurs Choice – 30ml
This phenomenal whisky from the long lost Millburn distillery was distilled back in 1972 before being bottled in 1995 by Gordon & MacPhail as part of their legendary Connoisseurs Choice series.
The whisky was bottled at 40% abv.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Chimney soot. Dusty cupboards. Grilled pineapples. Extra virgin olive oil.
Palate: Seville marmalade. Gentle liquorice. Barley sugars. Liquid smoke. Hazelnuts. Slightly bitter oak.
Finish: Soft caramel. Kiss of spice. Honey crumpets.
*this is one of our favourite whiskies we have ever tasted!
Millburn Distillery – Closed
The oldest of the lost Inverness triumvirate, Millburn began life in 1807 as a farm distillery on the East side of Inverness – a far cry from the development that Inverness and the former location of the distillery would eventually go on to witness.
Unfortunately, in 1985 the distillery was closed just two years after its inverness relatives – Glen Albyn and Glen Mhor were shut during the tragic whisky loch of the 1980s. During its lifetime Millburn produced a highly acclaimed malt that was known for being a lightly smoky whisky with notes of silky honey, grilled tropical fruits and gentle spice.
