Islay Mist 8 Year Old 1980s Bottling, Laphroaig – 30ml

£16.00

Looking for 1970s Laphroaig? Well, this is a fantastic, richly flavoured old school blend containing boatloads of late 1970s Laphroaig in it…

This is an early 1980s bottling of Islay Mist and was bottled with an 8 year old age statement attached. During this period Islay Mist was produced at Laphroaig distillery. The whisky was bottled at 40%.

1970s Laphroaig is famous for its pronounced tropical fruit notes and this blend is chock-full of them.

Our Tasting Notes:

Nose: Crystallised ginger. Mango juice. Campfire embers. Pomegranate. Damp apple tray. Distant smoke. Fishing ropes.

Palate: Smoked jackfruit. Toffee apples. Spice rub. Clean smoke. Dried orange skins. Slight saline presence.

Finish: Liquorice. Faint smoke. White pepper. Kipper skins.

Islay Mist

This cult favourite blend dates back to 1927 and was created by legendary Laphroaig owner and distillery manager – Ian Hunter. The blend was initially made as a request from Hugh Morrison – the Laird of Islay for his son’s 21st birthday celebrations. Instead of using only peated Islay malts, Ian Hunter opted to include whiskies from Speyside to presumably soften the overwhelming presence of peat.

Eventually a full time, commercial blend was authorised and adorned with the Great Seal of Islay on the bottle. Rapidly, Islay Mist became a very popular blend, particularly on Islay.
