Glen Ord 1996 Vintage, Blackadder 'Raw Cask' – 30ml
This is a 1996 vintage, 19 year old Glen Ord and was bottled by Blackadder as part of their iconic Raw Cask series.
The whisky was distilled on the 7th March 1996 and was bottled in September 2015 at a cask strength of 53.9% abv. This single cask release was limited to just 278 bottles (this is bottle number 5).
Every Blackadder Raw Cask release presents each whisky in its purest form – containing natural and unfiltered cask sediment, oils and fats.
*Each of our samples will contain cask sediment from this bottle.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Forest floor. Daim bars. Thyme. Green apples. Lemongrass.
Palate: Honeycomb. Pine needles. Gentle oak presence. Earthy. Quite a silky mouthfeel overall.
Finish: Herbaceous finish with additional notes of pear and orange oils.
Glen Ord Distillery – Active
Perhaps winning the award for ‘most grassy’ new make, Glen Ord distillery was founded in 1838. Interestingly, Glen Ord is one of only three distilleries that are entirely self-sufficient when it comes to malting requirements (the other two being Springbank and Roseisle).
In fact, the Glen Ord site is home to a massive maltings plant that produces malt for all of Diageo’s north Highland distilleries (+ Talisker), and even occasionally produces heavily peated malt for Islay.
These days Glen Ord is produced for Diageo’s The Singleton brand (along with Speyside’s Dufftown and Glendullan distilleries) and the vast majority of its whisky is earmarked for the Asian whisky market.
