Glen Albyn 1968 Vintage, Connoisseurs Choice – 30ml
Here we have a fantastic 1968 Vintage from the long lost Inverness distillery – Glen Albyn (closed in 1983). This was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of their legendary Connoisseurs Choice series.
We estimate that this whisky was bottled in the early 1990s, and in all likelihood contains at least 21 year old whisky.
The whisky was bottled at 40% abv.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Cinnamon sticks. Dried apricots. Pumpkin seeds. Pistachios.
Palate: Pomegranate. Fennel. Rooibos tea. Roasted chestnuts. Sunflower seeds. Prunes.
Finish: Lemon slice in black tea. Plums. Gentle liquorice. Like licking an old leather bound book
*This is a delicious whisky and one that rewards the drinker the longer you spend time with it.
Glen Albyn Distillery – Closed
Founded in 1846, Glen Albyn was the middle child of the three lost Inverness distilleries.
Glen Albyn has a fascinating history – it was founded by the provost of Inverness, during the 1860s it was converted into a flour mill, it operated as a US naval base for mine manufacturing from 1917-1919, and was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to introduce Saladin boxes.
Unfortunately during the whisky loch of the 1980s, Glen Albyn was deemed surplus to requirements and was closed for good in 1983 – the same year neighbouring distillery, Glen Mhor was also closed.
