Bowmore Decades Sample Set: 1970s/ 1980s/ 1990s
Have you ever wanted to try a vertical of Bowmore whiskies from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s together? If so this very special sample set is just for you.
Please note – this sample set contains three, 30ml samples of the following whiskies:
– Bowmore 15 Year Old Bottled in 1988 for the Glasgow Garden Festival (distilled circa 1973, 40%)
This Bowmore 15 year old ceramic bottling was released in 1988 to coincide with the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival and contains circa 1973 distilled whisky. It’s a fantastic example of the legendary tropical fruit notes that Bowmore was famed for during the 1960s and 1970s.
The whisky was bottled at 40%.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Wine gums. Dried mango. Thread of smoke. Sweet barley. Linseed oil. White chocolate. Icing sugar.
Palate: Campfire ash. Pineapple skins. Mango chutney.Bonfire smoke. Saline presence. Dry peat. Old leather. Earl grey.
Finish: Grapefruit rinds. Gentle bitter chocolate.Earthy wood. Subtle salted liquorice.
–Bowmore 1989 Vintage 10 Year Old Single Cask, Cadenhead’s Authentic Collection (61.8%)
This is a Bowmore 1989 Vintage 10 Year Old bottled by Cadenhead’s as part of their Authentic Collection.
Distilled in 1989 this whisky was matured for 10 years in a single bourbon hogshead before being bottled in May 2000 at a natural cask strength of 61.8%.
This release was limited to 312 bottles worldwide.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Prominent wax, recently snuffed candle. Orange peel.Milk chocolate. Wet sand. Bonfire embers. Charcoal. Diced apples. Dry peat.
Palate: Oily palate. Citrus zest. Salt. Mineral presence leading to notes of wet stones and driftwood. Cologne. Walnuts. Tobacco ash. Green fruits. Lime peels. Emerging floral profile.
Finish: Warming spice intermingles with reappearance of burnt citrus and minerals. Finishes like inhaling a sharp sea breeze.
–Bowmore 1990 Vintage 21 Year Old Single Cask, Douglas Laing Old & Rare Platinum Selection (49.6%)
This is a phenomenal Bowmore 1990 Vintage 21 year old single cask from Douglas Laing’s Old & Rare Platinum Selection.
The whisky was distilled in October 1990 before spending 21 years in a single refill hogshead until it was bottled in September 2012 at a natural cask strength of 49.6%.
This release was limited to just 234 bottles worldwide.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Clean, domesticated smoke. Inviting maritime character. Parma violets. Delicate menthol. Soft tar. Grilled citrus.
Palate: Sweet peat influence. Salted fudge. Subtle brine. Oilskins. Citrus zest. Brown sugar. Emergence of a tropical fruit note.
Finish: Cigar ash. Lemon rinds. Further brine notes. Soot.
