Dallas Dhu 12 Year Old, Gordon & MacPhail (40% volume)
This is a classic Dallas Dhu 12 year old bottling produced by Gordon & MacPhail in the 1990s. Gordon & MacPhail held the license to bottle Dallas Dhu as a single malt for many decades. The bottle code indicates that this was bottled in 1994. This was bottled at 40% volume. Dallas Dhu was unfortunately a casualty of the infamous whisky loch of the 1980s and ceased producing whisky in 1983.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Oily orange peels. Gentle coal smoke.Cardamon. Apple slices. Marmalade. Old chesterfield sofa.
Palate: Yellow fruits. Caramel brittle. Coal smoke. Banana skins. Dry oak spice. Walnuts. Strong black tea.
Finish: Bitter oak spice. Dry compact earth. Tobacco. Further apple notes. Re-emergence of chimney smoke.
Lochside 10 Year Old 1980s Official Bottling (40% volume)
This 10 year old Lochside was bottled at some point in the 1980s and was the only official malt whisky bottling of Lochside distillery during its lifetime. A rare opportunity to try a whisky that is only becoming harder to find. Lochside distillery was mothballed in 1992, completely demolished in 2005 and in the years since has become a highly sought after malt. The whisky was bottled at 40% abv.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Gooseberries. Damp orchard. Scented washing up liquid. Sour apple sweets. Vanilla custard.
Palate: Nutmeg. Candied mango. Powdered ginger. Wet leather.
Finish: Dry oak. Caramel brittle. Wet hay.
Dufftown 8 Year Old, bottled 1980-1985 (40% volume)
This is a Dufftown 8 year old bottling from the early 1980s. Dufftown used this label up until 1985 so we know as a result that the liquid inside was in fact distilled in the mid-late 1970s. The whisky was bottled at 40%. Fantastic liquid, this bottling is one of the unsung heroes of the 1980s.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Wood varnish. Oily rags. Sweaty leather. Figs. Caramelised apples.
Palate: Dried mango slices. Pine needles. Mixed nuts. Dusty bookshelf. Dried cherries.
Finish: Gentle liquorice. Soft bitter old oak. Faint calvados note to finish.
Cambus 1980s Bottling, United Distillers Employee Only Release (40% volume)
This is a very rare official bottling of Cambus that was released at some point during the 1980s by United Distillers (now Diageo). Cambus Distillery was sadly closed in 1993 and its site is now a Diageo cooperage. The whisky was bottled at 40% abv.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Lemon curd. Old gin (pre 1970s botanicals). Butterscotch. Spring air.
Palate: Thick porridge. Very creamy. Dried banana slices. Shortbread. Botanical note shines through. Homemade jam tarts.
Finish: Warm gingerbread. Sweet grain. Dry oak.
Teaninich 1991 Vintage Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice (46% volume)
This is a 1991 vintage 14 year old Teaninich that was matured in refill sherry casks and bottled at 46% abv in 2006 by Gordon & MacPhail for their legendary Connoisseurs Choice range. Distilled in December 1991, this whisky spent 14 years maturing in refill sherry butts before being bottled in April 2006. Teaninich is a true Highland workhorse distillery dedicating nearly all of its production to Diageo’s many blends. We believe this bottling is a great example of Teaninich’s intense oily characteristics.
Our Tasting Notes:
Nose: Mandarins. Sweet malt. Sour apples. Wet lawns. Butterscotch.
Palate: Waxy lime skins. Nutmeg. Dusty oak. Grilled peaches. Gentle smoke.
Finish: Wood spice driven finish with additional herbaceous notes.
