Burns Night Tasting – 25/1/26
A recap of our Burns Night tasting at the fantastic The Trevor in Glynde, East Sussex.
The evening was a brilliant success and featured great drams, haggis and conversations, all whilst celebrating the immortal memory of Robbie Burns.
We kicked the proceedings off with a Robbie Burns blend that was bottled by R.H. Thompson & Company in the early 1980s. During this period R.H. Thompson held the license for Teaninich distillery.
The second dram swiftly followed and was a Miltonduff 1994 vintage 22 year old single cask, bottled by Douglas Laing as part of their Distillers Art series. Matured in a refill hogshead this Miltonduff was full of notes of fruit salad, new leather, shoe polish, menthol and citrus peels.
Our fourth dram of the evening was a 1980s bottling of the Glen Ord 12 year old, released at a time when Glen Ord was branded as ‘Glenordie’. It featured notes of autumn leaves, shortbread, banana skins, sponge cake, marzipan, pine nuts and sugar puffs.
The penultimate dram of the evening was our first and only grain whisky of the night – a Girvan 1979 Vintage 14 year old bottled by Cadenhead’s in 1994 as part of their Authentic Collection. The whisky was bottled at a cask strength of 65.3%.
Finally, our last dram of the evening was a whisky from one of our favourite lost distilleries – Pittyvaich. Distilled in 1979, this whisky spent 29 years maturing in a single cask before being bottled by Duncan Taylor in 2008 as part of their Rarest of the Rare series. A firm favourite on the night it featured notes of apple strudel, warm brioche, fresh orchard fruits, mead and sandalwood.
Many thanks to everyone who attended the evening.
